Melrose Abbey Wedding | A Grand Celebration in Kansas City

Jonathan and Lexi’s Melrose Abbey wedding was the definition of grand and classic. Their ceremony took place inside the stunning Melrose Abbey in Kansas City, a breathtaking venue with a dome ceiling, gold chandeliers, and timeless church architecture. Following the ceremony, guests gathered at the elegant Grand Hall downtown for an unforgettable reception. Every space was filled with lush blue and white florals, creating an atmosphere that felt both regal and romantic.

This wedding’s seamless beauty was made possible by the talented team at Events By Elle, led by Michelle Layman. Known for their expertise in luxury weddings, they executed Jonathan and Lexi’s vision flawlessly, ensuring every detail felt personal and elevated.

A Vision Inspired by a Gown

The inspiration for the wedding began with the bride’s unforgettable reception gown—Sareh Nouri’s “Hydrangea.” This exquisite white and blue floral design became the anchor for the entire wedding aesthetic. The pattern appeared on the dance floor, bar, signage, invitations, and even the cake. Shades of blue flowed through every detail, making the event feel cohesive and thoughtfully designed. Guests recognized the theme immediately upon arrival, and the atmosphere felt truly one-of-a-kind.

As the stylist for her family-owned bridal boutique, Mimi’s Couture Bridal, Lexi knew she would wear something extraordinary. For the ceremony, she chose the elegant “Emilia” gown by Monique Lhuillier, complete with intricate lace and a matching bolero. This timeless look captured the classic, elevated style she envisioned.

Her second gown, the show-stopping Sareh Nouri Hydrangea dress, became the centerpiece of the reception. Its pattern and color set the tone for the event design. Later in the evening, she changed into the Suzanne Neville “Copland” gown, perfect for dancing the night away in style and comfort.

The bridesmaids wore Amsale’s “Dari” gown in ice blue faille from Mimi’s Bridal at Town and Country. With an elegant slit and pearl shoes, the look felt elevated yet playful. Groomsmen wore the Michael Kors Ultra Slim Fit Legacy tuxedo from Jim’s Formalwear, while the groom opted for a custom tuxedo from Michael’s Fine Clothing-Men with a traditional shawl lapel. His patent leather Oxford shoes completed the polished look.

A Christ-Centered Ceremony

Jonathan and Lexi wanted their ceremony to reflect their shared faith. They included a meaningful foot-washing unity ceremony as a symbol of their dedication to serving one another, inspired by the example of Jesus. This intimate moment added depth and spiritual significance to the day, reminding everyone present of the foundation of their love.

Reception at The Grand Hall

The Grand Hall provided a perfect backdrop for the evening’s celebration. Its soaring ceilings, ornate chandeliers, and Art Deco details elevated the romantic blue and white décor. Guests were welcomed by a custom monogrammed dance floor featuring the Hydrangea motif, lush floral arrangements, and candlelight glowing from tall glass pillars.

The couple’s seven-tier cake by Shannon Bond Cake Design was a masterpiece. The bottom tiers featured asymmetric ruffles leading up to the Hydrangea print encircling their initials. Guests enjoyed three delicious flavors: vanilla almond, chocolate chocolate, and lemon blueberry.

One of the most unforgettable moments of the evening came when Lexi surprised Jonathan by singing At Last by Aretha Franklin. Her voice filled the Grand Hall, and the emotional reaction from the groom and guests was priceless. The night continued with joyful dancing, laughter, and celebration beneath the glowing chandeliers.
